Creative Writing Competition 2023-24: “What’s next?”
Amidst the backdrop of various unfolding events—the emergence of AI models, the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, extreme weather conditions, etc. —what narratives have emerged from these vivid moments, and what stories are yet to be written?
Select a news article that resonates with you and use it as a springboard to expand your imagination. Craft a short story (1000 words +-10%) to depict what’s happening in these moments or what could happen in the future.
Submission Guidelines and Requirements:
- Short story word limit: 900-1100 words
- Please attach a screenshot of the news article title and the website link
Participants will earn 2 iGPS units or 6 ECA/CS hours. Finalists will be awarded a certificate and book vouchers as follows:
- ONE Golden Award: $500
- ONE Silver Awards: $300
- ONE Bronze Awards: $200
- FIVE Honourable mentions: $100 each
The awardees’ work will be recorded in the archive of the Department of English’s website.
You can submit your work to elc@hsu.edu.hk with the Subject “Creative Writing Competition 2023-24”. The deadline for submission is 19 February 2024.
