ENG3000 University English for Senior Entrants (AY2025/26)
Module Description
This pre-sessional English language module aims to provide additional English language support to Year 2 and Year 3 Senior Year Entrants for their study and for fulfilling the English language requirement in HSUHK. This module comprises an online self-study component focusing on accurate grammar usage and vocabulary expansion; and a face-to-face component on enhancing students’ English language skills. This module is compulsory for Year 2 and Year 3 Senior Year Entrants with an Associate Degree and Higher Diploma qualification unless they fulfil the exemption conditions.
Schedule (Semester 1, AY2025/26)
October Round
4 October, 11 October, 18 October (Saturday)
- 10:00am – 1:00pm & 2:30pm – 5:30pm (you have to attend ALL sessions)
- Online Quiz: 25 October (Saturday) 12:30pm – 1:30pm
November Round
1 November, 8 November, 15 November (Saturday)
- 10:00am – 1:00pm & 2:30pm – 5:30pm (you have to attend ALL sessions)
- Online Quiz: 22 November (Saturday) 12:30pm – 1:30pm.

To facilitate our class assignment, please also fill in the form before 21 September 2025. Please note that you need to attain 80% attendance (i.e. being absent for 4 hours only), or else you will fail the course.

If you are successfully enrolled in Semester 1 classes,
you will receive an email about the course schedule and venue on 26 September, so please check your HSU email.

ENG3000 is a compulsory module as an entrance requirement. If you do not pass the course, you risk delaying graduation.
FAQs
The module is mandatory for all Year-2 and Year-3 entrants with an Associate Degree / Higher Diploma qualification (admitted from Academic Year 2022/23).
Entrants who fulfil the following minimum English proficiency standard can be exempted from taking the module.
- Level 3 in HKDSE English Language; OR
- 6.0 point in IELTS; OR
- 540 (Paper-based), 200 (CBT) or 75 (IBT) in TOFEL; OR
- 680 in TOEIC; OR
- 490 in CET-4
You are required to retake the module in the next round when the module is re-open for enrollment. The details will be announced in due course.
Yes. Students shall attain an attendance rate of 80% to pass the module.
The module is non-credit bearing. However, “Pass/Fail” will be printed on the transcript upon completion of the course.
The whole module is completely free of charge.
